THIS SUNDAY
Back to Hebrews 6:13-20
This coming Lord's Day we will make our way back to Hebrews.
In the last section of Hebrews 6, we see the reason for our hope in Christ. The reason goes all the way back to Genesis. Our hope is secure because our hope rests in God alone.
Hope = confident expectation
Hope leads to encouragement.
Where there is hope in Christ, you will also find faith and patience.
Our hope comes from the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever...
ADDITIONAL PASSAGES TO READ
Genesis 15, Romans 5:1-11
CONSIDER/MEDITATE
What is your anchor in life? What holds you steady when the ups and downs come, when temptation comes after you? Kids? Spouse? Music? Social Media? Netflix? A glass of wine?... Does it work?
What is wrong with worldly "anchors"?
Christ anchors us to the very presence of God for eternity.
Meditate carefully through the words of hope in Romans 8:18... "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us."
(REMINDER) THEMES OF HEBREWS
Christ is better. Throughout, we will see that Christ is better than angels, Moses, and Israel. He is the better high priest, sacrifice, mediator, and more. This theme will be a major part of Sunday morning sermons, focusing on the superiority of Jesus Christ.
Continuity of the Old and New Testaments. The New Testament is not a redo of the Old, but it is a continuation of the Old. You will see many references to Old Testament passages throughout the book of Hebrews. Many times these references will help you better understand Jesus, the Gospel, and the New Covenant.
Warning passages What is the warning? Don't miss Jesus! Pay attention to His message! Do not neglect Him! Do not be deceived by sin! Hold fast! Strive to enter His rest! Do not grow weary, and many more. The warnings are so great because Christ is superior, the Son of God, the only way into the House of God.
