THIS SUNDAY...
we begin our month-long series on the family. Recovering the Biblical Family
When we say "the family", what are we talking about?
Our primary focus during this series will be on the following topics: marriage, men and women, and parenting. Also, scattered throughout, we will also look at the ways the biblical family has been misrepresented, misguided, and even attacked by Satan and the world. You could call them enemies of the biblical family, and they typically take on the "isms" of the world (feminism, progressivism, materialism, to name a few).
WHY SO IMPORTANT?
The simplest answer is that being a part of your family is what we do most. Therefore, if our purpose in life is to do all things to the glory of God, being a part of your family is probably what you do the most.
Also, marriage is picture of the relationship between Christ and the church (Ephesians 5:22-33). This makes marriage a big deal in the sight of God. Therefore, it should be a big deal to us.
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:31-32
BE AWARE
The family, marriage, and parenting have been extremely influenced by the fallen world, and we must be ready to admit that it has even influenced the “Christians” understanding. Therefore, our goal is to see what God has said, pinpoint how the world has influenced us in a negative way, and seek to repent and be obedient to what God has said.
Whenever the goal is repentance and obedience, honesty and humility are absolutely necessary. This is never an easy process, as it is a process of denying the flesh, putting to death the deeds of the body. As Paul would say in Romans 8:17, it is a way we suffer with Christ.
In the end, when we suffer with Christ we are glorified with Christ. This is the hope of this sermon series, for our families, marriages, and parenting to glorify Christ and be glorified with Him
