Getting Ready for Sunday 4/3

THIS SUNDAY: Matthew 16:13-26 We begin to turn our focus towards Holy Week. The week of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. The passage we will be looking at this coming Lord's Day is one that reveals Jesus' intention to make His way to Jerusalem, to fulfill the will of the Father, to die "as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45). Jesus knows the cross is before Him. He knows He will carry it to the sight of His execution. He knows he will be crucified. Yet he is determined to march on toward Jerusalem.

We also see in this passage that Jesus calls others to follow Him to the cross, to give up their lives for the sake of Jesus Christ, His gospel, and His Kingdom.

Additional Passages to Read

  • Luke 24:13-34

  • John 11:45-57

Consider (Meditate) on the following as your read and pray:

  • Meditate and pray on the phrase, "Jesus began to show that he must go to Jerusalem to suffer many things... and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

  • As you think about Jesus' words, "if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me," consider what the cross signifies. Consider what is about to happen to Jesus on the cross.

  • How does taking up a cross connect with "let him deny himself"?
