THIS SUNDAY- Hebrews 12:1-17
This week we are going back into Hebrews, and continuing our look at part II of God disciplining his children.
-Verse 5b: "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord..."
-Verse 7b: For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
-Verse 10b: but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.
Below you will find part one, and it may be helpful to go back and listen to it as a refresher.
CONSIDER/MEDITATE ON THREE ESSENTIAL REALITIES OF DISCIPLINE
Holiness: the purpose: What God is accomplishing through disciplining his children.
Adoption/Sonship: the basis: The Father disciplines his children only, those whom he loves through Jesus Christ.
Sovereign Providence: the how: God is in control of all things, and has a purpose for all things, even our trials, sufferings, and persecutions. "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" Rm 8:28
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives. - Hebrews 12:6

Question 33: What is adoption?
A. Adoption is an act of God’s free grace (1Jo 3:1), whereby we are received into the number, and have a right to all the privileges of the sons of God (Jhn 1:12; Rom 8:17).
